Former Gonzaga forward Killian Tillie waived by Memphis Grizzlies
Oct. 15— Killian Tillie, a former top player for Gonzaga University, was released by the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, four days before the start of the team’s regular season.
Throughout his time at Gonzaga and in his first two seasons in the NBA, Tillie was plagued by a variety of ailments. Due to a back ailment that necessitated surgical intervention, he was unable to play for the majority of the second half of the previous season. During the Grizzlies media day in late September, he disclosed to the press that he had not yet fully healed from the back ailment. There was not a single preseason game in which he participated.
After releasing Tillie and wing Dakota Mathias, Memphis was finally able to finalise its roster in preparation for Wednesday’s season opening against the New York Knicks.
Despite not being chosen in the 2020 NBA draught, Tillie swiftly reached an agreement with Memphis to sign a two-way deal. In January of last year, his two-way pact was restructured to become a two-year contract for $4 million.
After signing his new deal, the forward stands at 6 feet 10 inches tall and played in three of the following four games as a starter. In a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, Tillie made three 3-pointers and scored nine points, but after that, he was only allowed to play in nine of the team’s next 52 games.
He did not participate in any of the remaining games of the regular season or any of the postseason contests that the Grizzlies played.
In the last two seasons, Tillie played a total of 54 games, averaging 3.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 11.9 minutes per game.
In his career at Gonzaga, the player who was born in France had a shooting percentage from outside the arc of 44.4% and averaged 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. When Tillie was a senior in 2020, she was named to the first team of the All-West Coast Conference, and in 2018, she was named to the second team. To earn Most Valuable Player honours at the 2018 WCC Tournament, he had a scoring average of 24 points and converted on 13 of 14 3-point attempts.
