‘The Gilded Age’ Hits Series High With Season 1 Finale; Audience Grows 54% From Premiere

The Gilded Age (1)

The Gilded Age completed its first season on a strong note, with 1.6 million people tuning in across HBO platforms to see the conclusion.

Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) is at the top of her game in HBO’s rookie season, with every high society lady attending her huge gala, even though most would rather be anywhere else. Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and Peggy (Denée Benton) encountered numerous obstacles throughout the course of nine episodes, and although there’s still a lot to figure out, things are finally looking up. (Deadline’s entire recap and Q&A with Julian Fellowes and Sonja Warfield may be found here.)

The season finale set a new series high for The Gilded Age, with a 54 percent increase in viewers over the debut in January. The Gilded Age has grown from 1 million overall viewers to 8.5 million across HBO and HBO Max at the time of the conclusion.

The Gilded Age was HBO Max’s most popular show heading into the finale. The Gilded Age was also the No. 1 most social drama series on TV on Monday, the No. 2 most social series finale on premium cable year-to-date, and the No. 3 most social drama series finale across all of TV year-to-date, according to the streaming service.

The Official Gilded Age Podcast, presented by Alicia Malone of TCM and Tom Meyers of The Bowery Boys, debuted at No. 1 on the Apple After Show podcast list and No. 2 in the TV & Film category.

Season 2 of The Gilded Age has been renewed. Julian Fellowes developed and wrote the series, which he also executive produces with Gareth Neame, David Crockett, and Bob Greenblatt. Directors Michael Engler and Salli Richardson-Whitfield are also executive producers. Erica Dunbar and Sonja Warfield act as co-executive producers. HBO and Universal Television, a part of Universal Studio Group, collaborated on The Gilded Age.
