Jets’ Mekhi Becton Is Officially Out For 2022 Season

Jets' Mekhi Becton Is Officially Out For 2022 Season

Mekhi Becton of the Jets will not play in 2022. The campaign for Mekhi Becton is now complete.

The offensive tackle was placed on injured reserve by the Jets on Tuesday.

On August 8, Becton hobbled off the practise field during training camp after hurting his surgically repaired right knee. Any hope that Becton had escaped with a serious injury vanished as an MRI indicated the lineman had fractured his right knee cap.

Becton suffered an injury to that same knee in 2021 that caused him to miss almost the entire season. Last year’s Week 1 injury prevented the former first-round choice from playing more than 50 snaps.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Becton will have knee surgery with Dr. Neal ElAttrache within the upcoming week. Becton just had a consultation with ElAttrache, the surgeon who operated on Zach Wilson’s knee on Tuesday.

Following Becton’s injury, it was anticipated that the 23-year-old would probably be sidelined for the whole 2022 campaign. He will not return until 2023, as confirmed by his placement on IR.

In order to reduce their roster and meet the league-mandated camp maximum of 85 players, New York also cut four players on Tuesday (DE Tim Ward, CB Luq Barcoo, OL Derrick Kelly, and WR Rashard Davis).

In order to fill Becton’s shoes up front, the Jets signed veteran offensive lineman Duane Brown in free agency. Brown has been selected to five Pro Bowls.

Becton and George Fant were slated to begin the season at right and left tackle, respectively. Brown, 37, will continue to play on the left side as Fant switches back to right tackle as Brown enters the fray in green and white.
