Ralph Macchio and William Zabka’s nostalgic, wildly popular Netflix revival is back for a fifth eagerly awaited season.
The Karate Kid film series, which had a number of well-liked releases in the 1980s, is the inspiration for Cobra Kai. About 35 years have passed since the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament when the television series is set in the present.
Old rival Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) has been in a downward spiral since losing their famed grudge match, while Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) now manages a prosperous car dealership and has a picture-perfect family.
The new season, too?
In the aftermath of the recent All Valley Karate Tournament, as Lawrence works to mend fences and LaRusso seeks assistance from a recognisable figure from his past, the action speeds up.
Meanwhile, the evil Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) hires the powerful Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) as Cobra Kai’s first female sensei in order to further his “No Mercy” karate empire.
Who plays what role?
Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, and Gianni DeCenzo, who played our favourite hormonally unstable, karate-loving, disturbed teenagers, all made a comeback, as did Courtney Henggeler, who played LaRusso’s wife Amanda.
When may I view?
This Friday, the fifth season of Cobra Kai will be available on Netflix.
