Bakaye Dibassy, the starting centre defence for Minnesota United, ruptured a quadriceps muscle in his right leg early in Saturday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Houston. He will likely miss the remainder of this season and the beginning of 2023 as a result.
Dibassy will miss the remainder of this season, the team confirmed on Monday afternoon. Adrian Heath, the Loons’ coach, predicted that Dibassy “probably won’t be fit for the start of next year as well” after the morning’s practise.
The Loons are third in the MLS Western Conference with an 8-1-2 record over their previous 11 games.
By the deadline for submitting its final 30-man roster on Friday, Heath said his team has the financial freedom to sign a replacement center-back but does not intend to.
Heath added, “We’ll work with what we’ve got.
Dibassy last month agreed to a new one-year deal with a club option that will begin the following campaign.
He was recruited from Amiens SC in the second division of France for the 2020 season, and during the past two seasons, he has started each of his 26 games. In 63 MLS appearances for the Loons, he has started 62 of them.
In Lawrence’s absence, DJ Taylor has switched from right back to left back.
Romain Metanire, a former MLS All-Star right back, appeared on the grassy training field on Monday despite only having played 22 minutes this season due to hamstring issues.
Heath sounded optimistic that Metanire might come back to play in the last seven regular-season games of the season, as well as any potential playoff games.
Once he has another successful week under his belt, “we’ll have a better notion,” Heath added. “A second body, someone who has served us so well in the past, would be welcome. It would resemble a new signing.”
